Assegaay Bosch Game Lodge is situated in the heart of the Klein Karoo. The lodge is nestled at the foothill of the Rooiberg Mountain Range between the quaint little villages of Calitzdorp and Vanwyksdorp. This magnificent game lodge expands over some 10,000 hectares of indigenous fynbos – it is truly a place of great scenic beauty.
GAME LODGE
Assegaay Bosch Game Lodge is a stocked,
game-fenced nature reserve in the Vanwyksdorp district of the Klein Karoo.
Phase one encompasses ten thousand hectares. Our mission is to restore the natural fauna and flora, which existed before the interference of man.
There are 35 individual farms within Phase 1 of the greater Assegaay Bosch Nature Reserve
offering the beauty of the floral- and mountain kingdom of the little Karoo, ten kilometers east from the quaint little village Vanwyksdorp.
VANWYKSDORP
Vanwyksdorp, a small marginal, rural village situated in the Little Karoo, 42 km from Ladysmith, just of the R62. The town was founded on the land of Buffelsfontein by Gerrit Vanwyk in 1838, today the population of the village is about 700, amongst which still a few direct descendants of Vanwyk. Their whole history they depending on farming of fruits and cattle enjoying the constant water output in winter and summer thanks to the mountain spring known as The Eye.
These days the area is experiencing a boom thanks to the tourism promotion of the R62. As previously seen in villages like Montagu, Barrydale and Oudsthoorn, Vanwyksdorp is starting to be developed as the prominent village of the Little Karoo. Offering a variety of interesting people, a heritage going back to the Bushmen and even as far as the discovery of a dinosaur egg.
