Pepperwood Country Estate is a prestigious security development designed around the Historic Berghoewe Manor House and Outbuildings in Somerset West.
Situated amongst the winelands and close to major golf courses and beaches, Pepperwood Country Estate is 25 minutes from Cape Town and 10 minutes away from Stellenbosch. The stunning views look over a golf course, vineyards, False Bay and Table Mountain.
The houses are architecturally designed by Gisele Vanderstraeten in a Contemporary Victorian style, in line with historic architecture of the Manor house. The homes feature quality finishes throughout.
The entrance to the estate is off the Berghowe road via the Gate House and a beautiful lane of oak trees with a paved road. The 2 metre high perimeter fence consists of a secure combination of plastered wall, as well as galvanized and painted high quality steel. It is electrified at the top.
Pepperwood Country Estate is an exclusive development of fifty 3 - 4 bedroom freestanding houses and has plot sizes ranging between 350m2 and 800m2. Home sizes range from 177m2 to 294m2. Each unit has a double garage.
SOMERSET WEST
Situated at the foot of Hottentots Holland Mountains, Somerset West was part of the area granted to the Free Burghers in the 1700s. The main landowner until 1708 was the then Governor of the Cape, Willem Adriaan van der Stel, who founded the farm Vergelegen, along the banks of the Lourensford River. After Van der Stels return to the Netherlands in 1708, Vergelegen was divided into 4 farms. The farmers were then granted a request to build a church under the British government under Lord Charles Somerset. Subsequently a village sprang up around the church buildings, and named Somerset.
In the 1850s, the name was changed to Somerset West, in order to prevent confusion with the Eastern Cape town of Somerset East.
Today Somerset West retains the charm of a country village, while being in close proximity to all the comforts of modern life.
